New Year Reading Resolutions for Bookworms

Read More Books

Reading more books is a popular reading resolution for the new year because no matter how much you read you can always read more!

If you want to track your goal you could join the hugely popular Goodreads Challenge where you can set a specific number of books to read in the year and then have fun watching as your number of completed books begins to climb!

Read a Specific Number of Pages a Day

Rather than focusing on total number of books read you could instead focus on developing a good reading habit and reading at least a little bit every day whether this is 10 pages or 100!

Spend More Time Reading

Again instead of measuring your reading by books or pages you can measure it in time by setting aside time for reading every day, whether that is only 10 minutes or an hour or more.

Listen to Audiobooks

If you like stories give listening to audiobooks a whirl.  Particularly good to do whilst carrying out other activities such as household chores!

Read More Diverse Books/Books You Don’t Normally Read

One of the reasons reading is so amazing is that it allows you to learn new things, discover new ideas, and see the world through others’ eyes. We all have specific types of books we gravitate towards, but if you find yourself falling into a reading rut and only reading the same type of books over and over, then it may be time to mix it up!

If you’re reading a book and it’s not enjoyable, then stop.  Life’s too short to read books you don’t like.

Join a Book Club

A book club is a great way to meet new people doing something you love.  You all read the same book and then you have people you can discuss it with to your heart’s content!

Stop Buying Books

If you ‘ve already got a large pile of books you want to read then make sure you don’t buy any new ones until you have read the ones you already have.

Organize Your Bookshelves

Do you have books overflowing your shelves and onto the floors, or sitting in bags in different places around your house? If so, then this year could be a great time to organize your bookshelves!

Declutter Your Books

This is an especially good  if you don’t have enough shelf space for all the books you own, you don’t have to give away all your books, but you must have some that you didn’t enjoy, or books that you’re never going to read again so maybe it is time to be ruthless!

Track Your Reading

Tracking your reading is a good idea so you know what you’ve read because then you will know which authors you like and can pick up other books by these authors. Everyone forgets authors, titles and storylines and who wants to start reading a book only to find after the first few chapters you remember it and have read it before.

Happy Reading in 2022.
